From Maharajshtra to the tip of Bombay stands the India’s most classic grotto. This art district is world famous for its art and culture heritage. Those caves were carved out for Buddhist monks to dwell and pray during the early centuries. They were then dedicated solely to Buddhism, Hindu and Jain Believes.
The Abbot of Chuang Yen Monastery, the Venerable Dammadipa, recently went on a Buddhist-linked visit to archeological sites in Maharajshtra. In addition to visiting the well-known Ajanta and Ellora monument caves, he explored the Kanheri, Karli, Bedsa, Bhaja, Pandulena and Aurangabad caves. Although the later caves are virtually less known even in academia and of small size, they are indescribably rich in architectural and sculptural significance. Ven. Dhammadipa will present the slideshow of the visit and share his insight as a Buddhist monastic.
