盂蘭盆法會，源於目犍連尊者救母之典故。《佛說盂蘭盆經》記載，目犍連尊者欲報父母乳哺之恩，以天眼觀見母親墮入餓鬼道，不見飲食，於是施展神通，以缽盛飯供養母親，食未入口就化成火炭，尊者悲求佛陀，佛言：「汝母罪根深結，非汝一人力所奈何，…….當須十方僧眾威神之力，乃得解脫。」
本寺於大佛殿舉行盂蘭盆法會，法會當日恭誦《盂蘭盆經》及上盂蘭盆供；敬設消災拔度牌位、供僧功德款及設齋供眾，以此功德迴向現世父母及七世父母，以報父母長養慈愛之恩。
