Program Information:
Suddhaso Bhikkhu will be joining us for Dharma Talk and open discussion focusing on the practical applications of the Four Noble Truths – namely, how we can use the Buddha’s techniques of self-investigation, mindfulness, and clear awareness to determine how we make ourselves unhappy, and how we can alter our habitual thoughts and emotional patterns to engender happiness and equanimity. There will be also be a period of meditation and an open question and answer type of discussion where Suddhaso Bhikkhu can address issues that are most relevant and alive for those who attend.
Suddhāso Bhikkhu first started to practice Buddhist meditation at the age of 17, in the tradition of Soto Zen. At the age of 20 he began living at Tassajara, a Zen monastery in central California, where he stayed for two years. At the end of that time he moved to Abhayagiri, a Theravāda forest monastery in northern California, where he was ordained as a monk and trained for several years before moving on to explore other monasteries. Currently he resides at Bhāvanā Society, a Theravāda forest monastery in West Virginia that offers public meditation retreats on a monthly basis.
