Venerable Jì Rú
The abbot of the Mid-America Buddhist Association (MABA) in Augusta, MO, and the president of the International Buddhist Friendship Association (IBFA) in Chicago, IL. Born in Malaysia, Venerable Jì Rú was first ordained and trained in the Theravada tradition in Thailand in 1980. He later converted to Chinese Buddhism and was ordained under the late great Buddhist Master Venerable Zhúmó in Penang, Malaysia, in 1986. Venerable Jì Rú held several important teaching and administrative positions in the Buddhist community in Malaysia before coming to the United States. He was the abbot of the Temple of Great Enlightenment, and Chuang Yen Monastery from 2002 to 2004.
