Retreat led by:Ven. Dhammadipa (Fa-yao)

The Pureland tradition believes that by reciting the name of the Amitabha Buddha single-mindedly, one can be reborn in the Western Pureland where enlightenment is guaranteed. This seven days of Pureland practices will be led by the abbot of Chuang Yen Monastery, Ven. Fa Yao. Apart from the chanting and recitation, the participants will have chance to hear Venerable Fa Yao’s dharma lectures on Pratyutpannasamadhi sutra among other Pureland sutras. He emphasizes the importance of establishing mindfulness and contemplating the virtue and merit of the Buddha in the practice, and the aspect of cultivating faith in the Western Pureland and the Amitabha Buddha.
Registration:Dec. 18 (Saturday) – 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
(Please register at the Administration Office, which is located on the first floor of the Great Buddha Hall.)
Orientation & Opening Purification Ceremony: 4:00pm
Application:Your application form should be received as early as possible so that we can arrange your lodging, meals, etc. We will only notify you if your application is rejected. Please call CYM if you have any questions.
Do’s and Don’ts:
1. Please bring your personal toiletries, a drinking mug, a sleeping bag or comforter, slippers, any medication, health insurance card, and loose casual clothes suitable for meditation.
2. CYM is located in a mountain area and is usually very cold in winter. Please dress properly to keep warm.
3. Do not bring any unnecessary valuables.
Fees: 1. Free donations are welcome. The general guideline is: Arahant Meal $100; Wish-fulfilling Meal $200; Auspicious Meal: $ 300; Merit-and-Wisdom Meal $ 400; Three-Gem Meal: $ 500; Peaceful Meal: any amount. Please inform the Monastery before the retreat starts if you would like to make a donation for meals.
2. Even if you are not going to participate in this retreat, you are still welcome to be a retreat sponsor. A donation of any amount is welcome. Longevity and memorial tablets will be available during the dharma session for merit sharing. Lantern rising will also be available. Please mail your donation to CYM.
3. Please make checks payable to BAUS, and specify on your check what the donation for.
Transportation:
1. Please arrange your own transportation.
2. The monastery will provide transportation from the Cold Springs train station on 12/18. (Please take a Metro North Train from Grand Central at 11:45am, will arrive at Cold Spring at 1:02pm).
3. If you plan to fly, please choose La Guardia airport. Your return trip should be scheduled for 12/26/2010.
Languages: Chinese and English. The Chanting will be in Chinese with English texts available. Dharma talks will be given in Chinese with English translations available if needed.
