bhante suddhaso

Ven. Suddhaso – Bhante Suddhāso, an American Buddhist monk, had studied under the guidance of some of the most important names in Western Buddhism, such as Ajahn Pasanno, Ajahn Amaro, Ajahn Vīradhammo, and Bhante Gunaratana. He was initially trained in Soto Zen Buddhism at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. He was then ordained at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery, where he was trained in the Thai Forest Tradition of Theravāda Buddhism. Since then, he has lived at various Sri Lankan monasteries in both rural and urban environments. He currently lives in New York City, where he is the co-founder of Buddhist Insights, a non-profit organization that provides free meditation classes and retreats led by Buddhist monastics.

david listen

Mr. David Listen – Teacher David Listen has been studying and practicing Chan/Zen meditation for over 10 years.  During these years of training, he simultaneously has gained extensive experience in teaching meditation classes and leading meditation retreats. Previously known as Venerable Chang Wen (常聞) in a well-known Buddhist organization, Dharma Drum Mountain, he was one of the few western monastic disciples of Chan Master Sheng Yen. He had been a monk for over a decade, and has since returned to lay life to share Buddhism in a more engaged way.

Mr. Henry Chang – Dr. Chang is a practicing Buddhist who has been involved with the development of the Chinese Buddhist Electronic Text Association, an effort to create digitized and searchable archives of Buddhist sutras, and has been a board member of the Buddhist Association of the United States since 1990.

Ms. Jennifer Maher –7 years in the Dharma Teacher Training program taught by Ven. Thich Tri Hoang, is a practicing Buddhist for 10 years in Mahayana tradition.

Mrs. Valeria Clark – Upon seeing the caves of Dambulla in Sri Lanka, Val decided to take a Buddhist path. Val was exposed  to both Theravadian and Mahayanna teachings. To alleviate her confusion she embarked on the four year Dharma Teachers training course at Chuang Yen Monastery, completing that class in 2009. More recently, she has found her teacher in the Tibetan tradition, founded by Je Tsongkhapa, and is happily practicing, taking great joy in the path.

Free Attendance, No Registration is required. Donation to the monastery is welcome.
