Summer Camp is a free annual program hosted by The Buddhist Association of the United States (BAUS) at Chuang Yen Monastery in Upstate New York. The camp hosts over 100 youth and adults to the mountainside monastery to study and practice the Buddhist Dharma under the summer sun. Campers will learn from and discuss with monastics and lay teachers. The program is offered in four tracks that are age and language appropriate. Each track has a separate program schedule, include wakeup times, mealtimes, and sleeping quarters. They are:

English Group: This English-language track is offered for adults and youth age 18 and above. The track features lectures in English either by Dharma Masters or through interpreters. This track is great for both people new to the Buddhist faith and those who are versed in its teachings. This group is limited to 35 campers.

Adult Group (Chinese Language): This track is for adults who prefer lectures in Mandarin. This track is great for both people new to the Buddhist faith and those who are versed in its teachings. This group is limited to 40 campers.

Teen Group: This bilingual (English-Mandarin) track is for children and youth between the ages 13-17. This track features social activities primarily facilitated by trained college-age counselors. The track also includes lectures in English either by Dharma Masters or through interpreters. This group is limited to 40 campers.

For parents registering their children, please note that each group has different sleeping quarters and different schedules. We require parents/guardians to place their children under the supervision of our trained counselors for the entirety of camp. We request that any communication during camp between parent/guardian and child go through their child’s designated counselor.
